Regional Commuter Rail - Ottawa east

Recommended Posts

Several years ago, a former Ottawa mayor showed interest in developing regional commuter transit. At the time, the first westbound VIA Rail train from Montreal arrived at Ottawa just before 9:00 AM, after the Toronto bound train had departed. Then VIA Rail revised the schedule to operate a Montreal - Ottawa - Toronto train service that arrives at Ottawa at 8:20 AM, with stops at Alexandria ON and Casselman. Previously, the first westbound VIA Rail train bypassed Casselman, traveling at considerable speed and sometimes reaching 160-Km/hr on the straight stretch of track between Casselman and southeast Ottawa, with arrival at Ottawa as early as 8:10 AM (VIA allowed their drivers to arrive slightly ahead of schedule at Ottawa)

For U of O students living at home in Alexandria, the service was convenient and allowed for arrival at the campus in time for the start of the 8:30 AM class . . .  . the eastbound afternoon train leaves at 2:20 PM and 6:55 PM evening train.

Regular weekday commuter buses also operate Casselman - Ottawa and Alexandria - Ottawa services
