Rob 1 Posted December 30, 2019 Share Posted December 30, 2019 Hey guys, I have noticed that at a lot of places along the line and at many stations, there are additional rails installed, sometimes a few inches from the outer rail, sometimes two rails closer to the centre. What do these additional rails accomplish or do? Do they actually make contact with the wheels and bogies of the trains? Link to post

They are made to keep the wheels in the tracks in case one slips-off of the mains tracks. You usually find them at stations, bridges and sharp turns ? Link to post
