Only 8 of these units were built for BC rail by Montreal Locomotive Works. As B units, these units would be placed mid train to assit through the mountains. This was the only B unit used by Carlton Trail, but not the only one purchased by OmniTrax. Came into service in 1998 and was retired in 2003. It now belongs to Ed Bowers along with sister M424 from Belt Railway that also ran on CTRW.

I recall pacing this old girl one night, somewhere. I was all excited about seeing a B-unit. It was throwing sparks out the stack every now and again. I remember seeing it in the Prince Albert yard, too.
